Free Movie! 13th – From Slavery to Mass Incarceration & Policing 4/19

When the 13th amendment was ratified into law on December 6, 1865, it abolished slavery, with one key caveat: “except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.” More than 150 years later, the United States incarcerates more people on earth than any other country in history.

Join us for a free screening of Ava DuVernay’s documentary, “13th” which interrogates mass incarceration as an evolution from the racialized state social control from slavery to present day conditions.

Then join us for a discussion with Frank Chapman led by Maria Hernandez who will address questions like,

“How do we end mass incarceration?”

“How do we obtain community control of the police?

“What is next in the fight for CPAC?”

Join us to celebrate the important win that forced the City to include CPAC in the public hearings on police accountability.

Food & Refreshments will be provided.
